11+ Preparation

Targeted small-group preparation for GL Assessment and CEM selective secondary school entrance exams. 12-week programme, max 4 students per group.

What the programme covers.

The 11+ is a different kind of exam from anything children encounter in primary school. It tests speed, reasoning, and accuracy under time pressure — skills that need deliberate practice, not just general ability. Most children can improve significantly with focused preparation; the key is starting early and using the right material.

Our tutors cover both the GL Assessment and CEM exam formats, which are used by different selective schools across Essex and East London. We confirm which board your target school uses before the programme starts and build the sessions around it.

Each session includes timed practice sections, technique review, and a short assessment that feeds directly into the following week. Parents receive a written update every four weeks showing exactly which areas have improved and what still needs work.

What we cover

Four tested areas,
all in one programme.

Every GL and CEM paper tests the same four areas. Our programme gives equal weight to each.

Verbal Reasoning

Word patterns, synonyms/antonyms, analogies, and sentence completion. Usually the area that benefits most from systematic practice.

  • Letter codes and sequences
  • Word connections and analogies
  • Anagram and hidden word questions
  • Cloze and sentence completion
Non-Verbal Reasoning

Pattern recognition, spatial reasoning, and visual sequences. Often the area students have had least exposure to before preparation begins.

  • Shape sequences and matrices
  • Odd one out and similarities
  • 3D rotation and nets
  • Codes and analogies in visual form
Mathematics

Above-curriculum primary Maths with a focus on applying knowledge quickly under time pressure. Speed and accuracy are both tested.

  • Number, fractions, decimals, percentages
  • Algebra foundations
  • Problem-solving and word problems
  • Data handling and geometry
English Comprehension

Passage comprehension, inference, creative writing, and grammar. Reading regularly at home is the single biggest support for this area.

  • Comprehension and inference
  • Vocabulary in context
  • Creative and descriptive writing
  • Grammar, punctuation, spelling
